Would you remove
the hill?
By the late 1930s the hill at Garden Place had become a well-known controversy. Its steep slopes stifled the development of commercial aspirations in the central city, and it was a poorly managed eye-sore. With it gone, developers could build new shops, businesses could move in, and the city could thrive. On the other hand, Garden Place Hill provided respite from the concrete jungle, providing a place where shoppers could sit and children could play. It had the potential to become a beautiful park as the city continued to grow around it.
Imagine it is 1937 and you are a ratepayer, polled about the removal of the hill. Would you remove Garden Place Hill?
